Eid holiday is over. I think I need some time to get used to going back to work 8 hours a day again. Went back to the office last Tuesday and man, it was dragging. It feels like I accomplished a lot and time is moving so slow.
I have three projects on my mind right now: the website for my friend’s bakeshop business, a logo and a design for somebody who was asking for help, well I wasn’t asked directly to do it but I love what they’re doing and I want to be a part of it and then to start writing and drawing again.
The last time I actually drew something on real paper was one or two months ago.
And I’m inspired to do all this because of Austin Kleon‘s Steal Like an Artist (which you can get for free from Mensis Liber).
The title of this entry came from the book by the way.
Here are some of my highlights
- Don’t ask a question before you Google it.
- A wonderful flaw about human beings that we’re incapable of making perfect copies.
- The best advice is not to write what you know, it’s to write what you like.
- You don’t put yourself online only because you have something to say– you can put yourself online to find something to say.
- Share your dots, but don’t connect them.
- The best way to the vanquish your enemies on the internet? Ignore them. The best way to make friends on the internet? Say nice things about them.
- So go on, get angry. But keep your mouth shut and go do your work.
- What a good artist understands is that nothing comes from nowhere. All creative work builds on what came before. Nothing is completely original.
The book is a very quick read and enlightening, inspirational.
Been recording my thoughts on my phone via voice recorder too, we’ll see if I come up with something coherent soon.
